Music Theory Spectrum

Music Theory SpectrumA leading journal in the field and an official publication of the Society for Music Theory, Music Theory Spectrum features articles on a wide range of topics in music theory and analysis, including aesthetics, critical theory and hermeneutics, history of theory, post-tonal theory, linear analysis, rhythm, music cognition, and the analysis of popular musics. The journal welcomes interdisciplinary articles revealing intersections with topics in other fields such as ethnomusicology, mathematics, musicology, philosophy, psychology, and performance.

  • Those who are not current members of SMT may purchase access to individual issues or articles at http://www.oxfordjournals.org, or else may join SMT to gain access to the current and all past issues.

Beginning with volume 36/1, spring 2014, Music Theory Spectrum is published by Oxford University Press. Our move to OUP also signals enhanced capabilities for augmenting published articles with online supplements. Articles and reviews appear in hard copy and also online, on a revolving schedule, prior to their publication in hard copy.
